Basilisk Tongue- though the Basilisk’s eyes cast a deadly glance, the venom and saliva of this serpent is also quite hazardous and must be handled carefully. A favorable core for potion makes and dueling masters.
Billywig Stinger- Exceptionally good when working levitation charms. The only drawback to this core is that it is somewhat unstable, given the volatile nature of the insect that provides it. Also useful when dealing with emotional healing
Blast-Ended Skrewt Claw- lending both protection strength and fire control, this is a good core for those who enjoy the outdoors.
Bowtruckle Fingernail- native to Germany, England and Scandinavia, the bowtruckle is a peaceful creature yet very protective and territorial. A strong core for parents and those who wish to serve and protect and keep the peace.
Centaur tail hair- The sheer strength and speed of the centaur is harbored in its tail hair lending both quickness and ferocity when casting spells, charms, jinxes and hexes.
Centaur mane hair- The cool logic of the centaur makes this a very stable core material. Long known for their intellectual ability, centaurs are also known for their skill as healers and this core is very good for healing charms
Chimaera mane hair- Hair from a Chimaera's Mane is a good core for spells that involve fire. This core may choose someone who is adventurous, noble, and/or a parselmouth.
Cockatrice feather- This core works well with spells related to the fire element, due to the fact that the cockatrice is a cross between a roster and a dragon. It's also good for most charm work
Crup Hair- This core is good for counter curses, and spells to speed something up. The core "Crup Hairs" prefers someone who is constantly in motion, someone who is strong, and/or someone who never gives up easily.
Demiguise hair- The hair of a demiguise is long and silky, and good at charms involving invisibility, and transfiguration. It is very dependable and long lasting, and can heal very well.
Diricawl feather- A very queer core, feather of the diricawl (muggle 'dodo') is sometimes very powerful but sometimes very feeble and ineffective. It's most persistently powerful in stunning and petrifying. Diricawl feathers are rarely used as wand cores, and attracted to unusual people.
Dragon Heart String- Chinese symbol for Emperors and power this core is favored by those of noble blood and those who crave power
Dragon Scale- protection and power are combined to amplify the spells cast from a wand with this core
Doxy Tooth- dwelling in colder climates, a Doxy is also known as the biting fairy. The power they hold in their teeth causes jinxes and hexes to become extremely hard to remove
Elf Hair- linked to fertility and servitude the powers are best channeled by those who aim to please others and sow their wild oats
Erkling Vocal Chord- mischievous and evil creatures native to Germany who lore children with their cackling laughter into the woods and eat them. Core is best suited for those who are practical jokers with a bit of a mean streak
Erumpent Horn- native to Africa, this animal is docile unless provoked. Their horn contains highly unstable and explosive fluid causing any magic cast by a wand with this core to be quite unstable and unpredictable
Fairy Dust- intensified magic and useful in making both love and luck potions
Fairy Hair- lending beauty and softness to both the owner and the spells cast. Wonderful in working with magical decorating or landscaping
Fairy Wing- a staple for those who work with levitation charms or are expert fliers
Fire Crab shell- the jewel encrusted shell of the fire crab native to Fiji, is greatly prized by potion makers across the globe for both use as a cauldron or strength and wisdom concentrated inside their wand
Flobberworm Slime- a very gentle creature sometimes classified as boring, yet they multiply quite fast and in large numbers. This core grants the wand strength in multiplication or enlargement of objects.
Fox Fur- The fur of a fox used in the core makes this wand a useful tool for transfiguration. The most powerful users can use this wand for invisibility.

Goblin Sweat- a greedy creature that is quite persistent and con speak both in human languages and their own “Gobbledegook”. Cores made of this help with deciphering problems and attracting wealth
Golem dust- Remnants of a real live (well, sort of) golem reputed to have been fashioned by Rabbi Yaakov of Prague in the 13th century. Exceptionally good for use in charms worked on inanimate objects.
Griffin Claw- originating from Greece, this half lion half eagle creature is used by wizards for protecting valuables. This makes it ideal for those interested in self protection and wisdom
Grindylow Finger- strength and aggression are the traits passed on from this native of the lakes of Britain and Ireland. Perfect for those who are prone to many duels.
Graphorn Horn- a very sought after potion ingredient though it is quite difficult to obtain due to the violent nature of the creature. Trolls often attempt to tame these beasts and use them for steeds due to their power and strength. The horns repel nearly every charm and spell and this lends both strength and protection to the wand and owner.
Hellhound Hair- large black demonic dog of hell with glowing eyes and unnatural speed. Quickness of cast spells and dark arts are best produced by this core
Hinkypunk hair- a one--legged swamp dweller is cunning and evil. Using its lantern, it lures unsuspecting muggles and wizards into the swamp and their subsequent death. Trickery, illusion charm strength and jinx strength is gained from this core.
Hippocampus scale- Good with water-related spells, and can perform spells to destroy evil underwater creatures. It makes a good wand for care of animals and gardening work, as it is harmonious with almost all un-human creatures
Hippogriff feather- Hippogriff feathers make powerful wand cores and can perform almost all kinds of magic well. They excel in transfiguration and levitation especially, and are very common in European wands.
Hippogriff Tailhair- skeptics love this one. Nobility and truth are held as a desirable trait with this beast and are passed thus onto the wand and user. Will cause spells to backfire on a user of poor moral fiber
Horklump Bristle- a Scandinavian creature that resemble a pink hair mushroom. It is a delicacy of Gnomes and promotes peace.
Imp Vocal Chord- found in the marshes of Ireland and Britain, these flightless creatures resemble pixies in both stature and demeanor. Mischievous and cunning, this core lends accuracy to spells and power to jinxes and hexes.
Jarvey feather- A valuable wand core, the Jarvey feather is good at all simple spells and many advanced ones. It is most effective when used to bewitch an object or an animal, but is also used to organize things and to clean dishes
Jobberknoll feather- Jobberknoll feathers are good wand cores for charms, advancing along with its owner through time. It is also used in simple cooking spells and transfiguration.
Kneazle Hair- a catlike creature with large ears, detects suspicious activity with ease. Cunning, crafty and highly attuned to deception. Useful in performing truth charms and legilimency
Lacewing Fly Wing- a key ingredient in polyjuice potion. Great for transfiguration
Leprechaun Hair- another favorite of pranksters and practical jokers. Uses are good when creating novelty items.
Lobalug Venom Sac- a staple in potion making and again unstable and deadly. This venom lends strong properties for torturing curses.
Mackled Malaclaw Jaw Bone- a bite from this coastline dwelling creature makes the victim unlucky for one full week. This core provides strength for hexes and pretty just ruining anyone’s day.
Manticore Hair- A core that is used for producing a protection (a shield to protect someone/something from any spells or charms, except the Killing Curse) is Manticore hair. Any wand that has this core may choose someone who is brave, loyal, strong, and fierce
Manticore Stinger- intellect of a human combined with the strength and ferocity of a lion and the deadliness of the scorpion. Usually this core will gravitate to the darkest of wizards.
Merperson scale- great intelligence and fairness is exuded by the noble merpeople. Core helps with the practical application of studies. A lot of members of the wizengamot have had this as a core to their wand.
Mooncalf Foot Skin- the power of the mooncalf’s complex mating dance is concentrated in this core. Used well by artists and lovers.
Murtlap Growth- eating the growth on the back of this rat like creature provides resistance to curses. This is also useful as a core providing protection, spell resistance and healing properties.
Niffler Fur- attracted to all things shiny this core reflects the vanity of the owner and is helpful in attaining wealth and power.
Nogtail Snout- if a nogtail suckles from a regular sow, the farm will suffer until it is driven out by a pure white hound. Properties of this core help the owner to attract and attain the wealth of others and amplifies spells that inflict pain or despair.
Nundu Spot- possibly the most dangerous creature in the world, this leopard like creature is known to wipe out entire villages with its disease-filled breath. Many dark wizards use this core as it amplifies the unforgivable and torture curses
Occamy Egg shell- native to the far east an India, the shells of the Occamy egg are made of pure silver and are melted down into a core that provides amazing protection and shielding powers.
Owl Feather- the intelligence, speed and dedication of the owl causes the core to gravitate to those of a dutiful nature. Strong willed and a constant friend.
Phoenix Feather- The phoenix feather represents power and strength in a wizard, which is why her wand is one of the most powerful of all. It improves the effectiveness of spells with time and practice, and can be used to do great things, good or evil.
Pixie Dust- jokes and tricks are the norm for this creature. The emit a high-pitched babbling sound and are often quick and excitable. A feminine core that usually picks young silly girls with large hopes and dreams.
Plimpy Flesh- considered a pest by merpeople, this core gravitates to those who are also considered pests by those who encounter them.
Pogrebin hair- Pogrebin hairs carry lots of power and are good for work with transfiguration and work with the earth element. They are effective in most advanced spells, but are best when in used in the dark arts
Porlock Hoof- an English guard that protects horses, lives only to serve and protect. Strong core for Aurors and quidditch keepers
Puffskein fur- The fur of a puffskein is a good wand core for love spells and spells related to music, as the puffskein itself is known for making pleasant noises.
Quintaped Hair- aggressive spider like creatures found on a remote island in Scotland. Core lends strength to transfiguration and is often use by those who find themselves to be antisocial or loners
Rabbit hair- of course the rabbit is known to be fast and peaceful and both of these qualities are reflected in it’s use as a core
Ramora Scale- resident of the Indian ocean, it is the guardian of seafarers and lends now only intense general magical amplification but protection from and somewhat control over water.
Raven Feather- loud noisy black birds that crave attention. Core gravitates to those with the same personality as a rave and it also provides strength in a mufflatio charm.
Red Cap Blood- drawn to pain and suffering, another staple of dark wizard cores.
Runespoor Shedded Skin- African three headed serpent where each head has a job. The left is the planner, the middle is the dreamer and the right is the critic. Those who are chosen by this core are usually organized with both thoughts and actions.
Salamander Tail- bred and lives in the fire and con only life outside of the flames if it is given pepper to eat. The blood had incredible healing properties and therefore the core is a favorite of magical healers of both wizards and creatures.
Sea Serpent Tounge- though they look extremely foreboding, the creatures are docile. Many who own this core are know as a gentle giant or win sweetest personality.

Shrake Spine- legend claims that this spiny fish was created by wizards who were constantly bothered by muggle fishers and the Shrake would ruin their nets, causing them to leave and never return. This core is mainly used by those who have distaste for muggles.
Snidget Feather- once used in the early days of quiddtch as the forerunner of the snitch, the bird nearly became extinct. A favorite of all quiddtch players
Sphinx Mane Hair- intelligent, protective and speaking only in riddles are the known traits of this beast. Core will gravitate to those of great sound metal ability and the ability to think under pressure.
Sprite Wing- water sprites, especially females, are extremely vain. They will lure muggle and wizarding men into their streams and leave them to drown. Those who enjoy affection and attention but find it difficult to love attract this core.
Streeler Slime- changing color on the hour and is often kept as a pet by African natives due to this amazing ability. It’s slime is so toxic that it will burn away all vegetation exposed to it. Used by potions master and herbology scholars alike.
Thestral wing- fast flying and possessing a wonderful sense of direction, these creatures have the misfortune of being associated with death and bad luck though this core lends speed and accuracy to all spells and charms cast.
Troll spittle- another favorite of aurors for the sheer strength and power of the trolls. Three varieties are available: Mountain, Forest and River
Unicorn Hair- pure fast and shy creatures that live in the forest. Their blood can sustain the life of any dying creature though to kill a unicorn is the ultimate sin. This core is best used by those who are contemplative, cautious and kind.
Vampire Blood- creatures of the night who continue their life by sucking it out of others. Core gravitates to those who are adept at the dark arts and love being out and up all night.
Veela Hair- This wand is useful for things related to love and/or beauty. It's also good for transfiguration and charms. However itcan be a bit temperamental.
Werewolf hair- A werewolf hair is best used in transfigurations and transformations, given the transforming nature of the werewolf
Wood Nymph Vocal Chord- obedient and beautiful with a very soothing melodic voice. Core holders are generally female and make wonderful vocalists, speakers and wives.
